The pattern worth noticing
Almost every major regulator that has looked closely at fixed-time binary options reached the same conclusion: the product resembles wagering more than investing, and offshore platforms leave retail users unprotected. That is not our opinion — it is the stated reasoning of the CMB, BAPPEBTI, SECP, ESMA and others.
Two distinct situations exist and they get confused constantly:
- Banned (Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam, EU/UK retail): offering or trading the product is prohibited.
- Unauthorised (India, Brazil): the trader isn't criminalised, but no platform is licensed — so there is no supervision and no recourse.

FAQ
Which countries ban binary options?
Among the largest markets: the EU and UK (retail ban), Turkey (2017), Indonesia, Pakistan and Vietnam prohibit them outright. India and Brazil don't criminalise the trader but authorise no platform — leaving users with no protection.
Is it illegal for me personally to trade?
In most of these countries the enforcement targets the platform, not the individual retail user. The bigger practical issue is that you have zero legal recourse if a broker withholds your money.
Why do so many sites say it's legal in my country?
Because they earn a commission when you deposit. Read our page on the affiliate conflict of interest to see how that model shapes 'reviews'.
What can I do legally?
Use regulated markets in your own country (listed options, futures, equities through a licensed broker) — and use demo accounts and open-source tools for learning and backtesting.
